The main cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently in Spain for the final two weeks of filming, and Pedro Pascal was spotted on set as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic. These photos were snapped before cameras rolled, but we can see the Gladiator II star sporting Reed's iconic gray hair and the team's blue jumpsuit underneath his jacket. It's unclear where the film is filmed, though the modern architecture should fit in well with the futuristic New York City where the story takes place. The set photos didn't reveal as much about The Fantastic Four: First Steps as hoped, though Marvel Studios deserves credit for keeping the action under wraps.
When asked earlier this year why he agreed to play the smartest man in the Marvel Universe, Pascal said, “Mainly because of the cast that I would be a part of. Matt Shakman, the director, is a lifelong friend of mine. And the influence of the Marvel world, which has created so much of popular entertainment.” “To be invited to be a part of this experience is something I couldn’t say no to,” The Last of Us star continued. “I love the comic book and I love being part of a family.” While John Krasinski was a fan favorite for the MCU role, he got his shot in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but wasn’t what Marvel Studios wanted for its main take on Reed. Pascal, however, looks stellar in the role.

Everything You Need to Know About The Fantastic Four: First Steps
The film is due in theaters on July 25, 2025. As usual with Marvel, story details are being kept under wraps. But in the comics, the Fantastic Four are astronauts who are transformed into superheroes after being exposed to cosmic rays in space. Reed gains the ability to stretch his body to amazing lengths. Reed’s girlfriend (and future wife) Sue can manipulate light to become invisible and cast powerful force fields. Sue’s brother Johnny can turn his body into fire, giving him the ability to fly. And Reed’s best friend Ben is completely transformed into a Thing, with giant orange boulders in place of a body, giving him super strength.
Matt Shakman (“WandaVision,” “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”) will direct The Fantastic Four: First Steps, from a screenplay by Josh Friedman & Jeff Kaplan & Ian Springer. Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards) is known worldwide for his roles in The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, and before that in Game of Thrones. Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm) has been part of the Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises, while Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm) has become a favorite among the younger ones for his role as Eddie in Stranger Things 4. Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm) is having a golden moment thanks to his role as cousin Ritchie in The Bear.
The cast also includes Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. As confirmed by Kevin Feige, the film will be set in the past, in an alternate 1960s compared to our reality of Earth-616, so it will be interesting to see how the four protagonists will join the other Marvel heroes we know. Franklyn and Valeria Richards, children of Reed and Sue, could appear in the film.
