Spider-Man 4 gets a working title, and it’s sparking some major Gwen Stacy speculation

As Spider-Man 4 begins filming next year, the film has received an intriguing working title that appears to reference a famous romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

Despite rumors that Spider-Man 4’s filming start date may be delayed (we hear Jeff Sneider is, once again, off the mark on this one), the film now has a working title. The Cosmic Circus has learned that the Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures co-production will be filmed under the name “Blue Oasis” and will be produced by Blaze Film, Inc. What, if any, does this working title mean? Well, Spider-Man: No Way Home was titled “Serenity Now,” so we shouldn’t put too much stock in the theories floating around.

However, the site correctly points out that the color of the Blue Oasis bears a striking resemblance to the imagery used in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Blue comic book series. The series retconned the story of how Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy met and fell in love, and with Spidey reportedly heading off to college, Spider-Man 4 may finally feature him as Earth-616’s Gwen. As a footnote, the report adds: “Our sources have confirmed that, once again, the events of the next Spider-Man film will take place AFTER Avengers: Doomsday, meaning it will not be a prequel to the events of the next Avengers film.”

While this working title shouldn’t be taken as any sort of confirmation that Gwen will appear in the film, there has been talk this week of Madelyn Cline joining Tom Holland and Zendaya in the film. At the time, many fans were quick to point out how great of a fit she would be as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. However, you could certainly argue that Cline would be a great Gwen Stacy. We’ll just have to wait and see. “I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” Holland said during a recent podcast appearance. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and at times we were just bouncing around the living room.”

“Like this is a real movie that fans respect, but there [are] some things that we have to figure out before we can actually make it. But it’s exciting and I’m really, really excited.” Holland added, “Obviously, one of the things to keep in mind with Marvel is that there’s, your movie is a little cog in a big machine, and that machine has to keep running, and you have to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture.” “I feel like I have a duty to [the fans] to give and deliver the best version of what the next Spider-Man is going to be, and I think that’s really important, and I think the creative integrity for something like this is really important, and the studio is on board and supportive and really collaborative.”

Spider-Man 4 has officially been dated for July 26, 2026, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton helming a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
